“Pharmaceutical Companies are Drugging Americans”

I have said, “Drug companies rule with a gold-plated iron fist,” and this has never been more true than today.  Here is some shocking news.  Mayo Clinic researchers report that antibiotics, antidepressants and painkiller opioids are the most common prescription medications given to Americans.  Researchers found that nearly 70% of Americans are on at least one prescription drug daily and over 50% take at least two prescription drugs everyday.  America continues to be the number one pill-poppers on the planet.  Twenty percent of Americans are on five or more daily prescription drugs.  Particularly concerning is the fact that many of these popular drugs have an addictive nature.  Almost one in four women ages 50-64 were found to be on an antidepressant, with 13% of the overall population also on antidepressants.  In general, women and older adults receive the most prescription drugs and the antidepressants and opioids were most common among young and middle-aged adults.
