“Marijuana Medical News Update”
Mere days after President Obama told the press that he was not prepared to change federal marijuana laws, the Department of Justice announced that it “would defer” its right to challenge state laws legalizing marijuana in Washington state and Colorado. The decision not to enforce federal anti-marijuana laws marked a significant change for the Obama administration and Americans can expect the growth of large, for-profit commercial enterprises that will saturate the country with “pot.” This may represent a threat to public health and safety and there may be valid medical reasons to oppose marijuana legalization. The New England Journal of Medicine just published an article concerning a report from the National Institute on Drug Abuse entitled “Adverse Health Effects of Marijuana Use.”
