“Antioxidants Fail In Alzheimer’s Patients, Again”
Supplement producers continue to flaunt the erroneous notion that antioxidants and supplements may be a key in prevention, treatment or reversal of Alzheimer’s disease. One of the worst offenders of promoting unscientific and unsupported supplement claims is Dr. Mehmet Oz, who currently has the number one talk show on daytime television. The Dr. Oz Show is a classic example of medical mockery and is basically a one hour supplement infomercial. In America, there are no government agencies to monitor or police false advertising, even though the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) makes feeble attempts to do so. Contrast this to China, where in 2007, Zheng Xiaoyu, former head of the State Food and Drug Administration, was executed in July 2007 for taking bribes and dereliction of duty after a series of drug safety scandals on his watch.
